Tantric Yogin & Devis

Yoga originates from the word “yuj”, meaning to unite or bind. A yogini is a female practitioner of yoga for the attainment of oneness with cosmic energy. The ancient yoga tradition of Tantra identifies Tantric Yoginis as forms of the goddess Kali, each one associated with a particular yogic technique (kriya), sacred sound (mantra) and mystic symbol (mudra). Indian temples such as those in Khajuraho and Belur, built as early as 900 AD, are devoted to her form as divine guardian, temple dancer, goddess (devi) and celestial consort. As portrayed on our journals, sculptures from these temples are both graceful and seductive, chiseled to display the traditional art of Indian dance. Each journal is endowed with a satin ribbon marker and long-lasting memento pouch.

You can see them at work on the written page. The Embellished Manuscripts Wraps include a memento pouch and a classic ribbon marker to store the treasures of a life well-lived.

Squaring the Circle challenges the idea of what a book should look like.

Ukiyo-e Kimono Patterns

Ukiyo-e (pronounced uu-kee-yo-eh) or "pictures of the floating world" is genre of japanese woodblock prints & paintings produced by a culture that bloomed in the urban centre of Edo (modern day Tokyo), Osaka & Kyoto during the relatively peaceful shogunate period 1600 and 1867. The Kimono prints for this series were originally woodblock prints created by art publishers who meticulous reproduced enlargements of small detail taken from the artwork of the greatest artist of the Edo period, inspiring contemporary garments design trends.

Cartella Collection

When do mundane account entries become magnificent artifacts? When they are housed in the Italian merchant Lanfredino Lanfredini’s blank book, circa 1516 to 1550. We could not resist creating an homage to this fine goatskin wallet binding made exquisite with blind-tooled knotwork and arabesque adornments. Ornamental stitching with thread and silk ribbon details highlight the finishing touches. The flap kept the contents secure and the cover employed ticketing stitches and hole punches, a method of attaching paper dating back to the 12th century. Few of the books from this era have survived but we have paidtribute to Lanfredini’s with the creation of our series of jewel-toned journals. Like Lanfredini’s account entries, whatever you write in your wallet bound journal is sure to take on a hint of Italian élan.
