Golden Mediums

Gel mediums offer artists many ways to build texture. They range in consistency from pourable to moldable with varying degrees of sheen and transparency.

Use them to create glazes, extend paints, build texture and alter finishes. They are also excellent glues for collage and multi media artwork

White Gels have a milky appearance in their wet state they are completely clear when dry. To add colour to Gel mediums simply mix with Heavybody or Fluid colours, or overpaint the Gel when dry. All of the Gels and Pastes are intermixable.

Self Leveling Gel is very transparent and can be mixed with Golden colours to improve the leveling property of the paint film.

Soft Gel is pourable gel that holds slight peaks and can be mixed with heavy body paints to extend colours and produce large quantities of economic colour. When mixed with a small amount of colour it creates an excellent glaze. Soft gel is also a good glue for collage and can also be used as a clear primer. As with all of the gels, soft gel is archaically sound.

Regular Gel has a creamy consistency that molds moderate peaks; it is the formulation used to produce golden heavy body colours and is therefore the perfect product for extending paint for economy. As with many of the gels it is available in three different finishes and can therefore be used to control the finished appearance of art work in terms of sheen, either matte, gloss or semi-gloss.

Heavy Gel can be blended with colours to increase the thickness of the paint, it holds peaks and is ideal for all kinds of impasto work. As with all the gels it has greatest clarity in its gloss form and has the ability to be over painted. When building thick areas of product it is worth considering that the thicker the single application the longer the drying time therefore layering may be preferable.

Extra Heavy Gel holds excellent peaks with even more body than Heavy Gel. Available in three finishes this product can be manipulated with a variety of tools to give; outstanding three dimensionality. As with all the gels once dry the product maintains excellent flexibility, however it is not advisable to roll think impasto works on canvas or paper as some cracking may occur.

Extra Heavy Gel / Molding Paste dries to a semi-opaque satin finish with good moldability and is more rigid than a basic gel.

High Solid Gel is the thickest of all the gel products and gives the most resistance to brush or molding tool. It dries clearest in its gloss form with a very high sheen. It can be over painted, or mixed with regular colours. It will hold sharp peaks.

Texture Gel

Unlike Standard Gels that are made from pure acrylic, texture gels are created by combining acrylic with inert particles to produce a texture surface. The type of particle used dictates the colour and texture of the gel.

Pumice Gel is mainly used to create granular texture and dries to a hard porous, yet flexible film. These gels are made with 100% inert material and are therefore archivaly stable. The three differing particles sizes allow you to control the degree of texture. Unlike standard gels, pumice gels have a slight gray colour and therefore will effect colours when mixed.

Garnet Gels create a hard granular surface that can be tinted or over painted. Unlike sand particles, garnet is completely ph neutral and will therefore not have any adverse effect on substrates. As with mist golden products garnet gel can also be used in conjunction with other mediums and gels to produce a wide variety of effects.

Clear Granular Gel can be used for adding texture while maintaining good transparency.

Clear Tar Gel has a unique tar like consistency with high gloss and pours easily.

Glass Bead Gel contains genuine small glass translucent beads. Best effects are achieved when applied in thin tinted layer.

Molding Pastes

Unlike standard gels, that are 100% acrylic polymer, Molding pastes are made using a combination of acrylic and marble dust. This gives them a unique hard opaque white surface. It can be used for texturing and closely resembles a traditional fresco surface.

Molding Pastes dry to a matte non-absorsant finish and hold peaks and edges well. Hard molding paste is dense enough to be carved with hand, or power tool. Light molding paste has a foam like quality and allow exceptionally think applications without adding excessive amounts of weight to a painting. All of these pastes can be tinted or over painted.

Course Molding Paste is a semi translucent paste excellent for building texture. Creates a great ground for drawing media and colour wash.

Fibre Paste is a flexible fibrous paste for adding texture or as a ground for canvas or boards. Has the appearance of paper pulp.

Crackle Paste cracks as it dries creating random surface effects. The depth of cracking varies depending on the thickness of application.
